The foot of the Arsenal Bridge is getting a travel makeover

Our partners at the U.S. Army Garrison Rock Island Arsenal tell us there have been minor delays to the completion of the traffic circle. They do not expect to be able to open the circle to public traffic until August 2. However, due to a maintenance issue that has been identified on the Government Bridge, they will not be able to open the bridge to vehicle traffic until the issue is resolved. The agency is working with contractors to complete needed work as quickly as possible. During the bridge closure, the bridge will still be available to walkers and bikers when in the closed position.

If you regularly visit the Rock Island Arsenal or use the Arsenal Bridge to access Rock Island or Moline, you have likely already heard – the foot of the bridge is getting a travel makeover beginning March 18. The project, constructed by the Rock Island Arsenal Department of Public Works, at the bridge’s entry and exit in Davenport, is in cooperation and support of the City of Davenport.

This exciting project will transform access on and off the bridge by installing a roundabout. What’s not so exciting, is the trade-off for modernization will require closing access to the bridge from Davenport. Closure is set to begin March 18 and expected to last through mid-to-late July. Use an alternate route during construction. We will provide updates as our partners at the Arsenal replace the existing antiquated traffic triangle and install a roundabout that is sure to keep travel moving swiftly and with improved safety.
