Davenport Swears In Six New Firefighters

Congratulations to our newly sworn firefighters: Conor Ryan, Griffin Morrill, Adam Hoogerwerf, Jake Ledvina, Dante Trimble  and Trevor Dodson.

October 29, 2021 - Mayor Mike Matson swore in six new Davenport firefighters at the City Council meeting on October 27. 

These individuals were assigned to regular 24-hour shifts in August following the completion of an eight-week recruit academy. Some training courses included fire dynamics, building construction, forcible entry, truck operations, and structural search and rescue.

The City was honored to acknowledge their commitment to our community. 
“This is truly a proud moment for a fire chief to be able to introduce six of the newest members to our family,” Fire Chief Mike Carlsten. 

Conor Ryan | Ryan grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa and attended Western Illinois University obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science degree. He has achieved his Firefighter 1, Hazmat Operations, and EMT certifications. Currently, he is in the process of obtaining his Firefighter 2 certification, and is planning to go to paramedic school in the near future. 

Prior to joining the Davenport Fire Department, Ryan spent time working as an EMT on an ambulance. 

Griffin Morrill | Morrill grew up in Sugar Grove, Illinois and graduate from Monmouth College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. 

While completing his college degree, Morrill also obtained his EMT certification. He has achieved his Firefighter 1 certification and is working on obtaining his Firefighter 2. He has plans to go to Paramedic school in the future. 

Adam Hoogerwerf  | Hoogerwerf was born and raised in Rock Island, and attended college at Western Illinois University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science. 

He has achieved his Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, and National EMT certifications. 

Jake Ledvina | Ledvina grew up in Tama, Iowa and attended the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training and minor in Military Science. During college, Jake joined the Iowa Army National Guard where he is still an active member today with 12 years of service as an Infantry Officer. 
He has achieved his Firefighter I, Firefighter II, & EMT certifications; and plans to attend Paramedic school in the future. 

Dante Trimble  | Trimble was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He attend Western Illinois University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Law Enforcement and Judicial Administration in 2014. After college Dante worked in the finance industry before finding his passion in becoming a firefighter.

He has achieved his Firefighter 1, and is currently pursuing his Firefighter II and EMT certification.

Trevor Dodson | Dodson grew up on the family farm near Shelby, Montana. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Once his enlistment was completed, he attended a fire academy and obtained his Firefighter I & II, and Hazmat Ops certifications. After the academy, he was hired at North Topsail Beach Fire Department, in North Carolina.  

Firefighter Dodson obtained his EMT and served at North Topsail FD for nearly two years, until he returned home to help on the family farm. During his time at home, he completed an Associated Degree in Fire Science through Columbia Southern University.
