This Just In

• Beginning Monday, June 3, Main St will be closed between Locust Street and Palmer for resurfacing, installation of new curbs and gutters, and ADA sidewalk improvements. During construction, access to locations east and west of Main Street will be available via either Harrison or Brady Street. No traffic will be allowed on Main Street to ensure the safety and efficiency of the work and construction zone.  The project is estimated to be complete by the end of September. 

• Watch for transitioning traffic control on 3rd St between Telegraph and Howell over the next few weeks. One lane of travel will remain open as crews begin applying asphalt in the southern lanes next week. Work will transition from the southern lanes to the northern lanes as the leveling base is applied, followed by the final surface layer across all lanes. Once the final surface layer and concrete boxouts are complete, work will transition to the next section of 3rd St between Howell and Marquette.

• E 36th St closed between Brady and Kimberly Rd for private utility disconnections. The road is estimated to re-open by July 10.

• Utica Ridge Rd will be down to one alternating lane of travel between 58th and 62nd St during the daytime beginning June 2, for utility pole replacement by MidAmerican Energy. Work is estimated to be complete by June 6. Delays are possible. All lanes of travel will be open during non-working hours. 

• Iowa American has various water main and hydrant work happening across the City including14th and Spring, 5th and Cedar, 13th and Ripley, 10th and Sylvan, River Dr and Blue Grass Ct, and Telegraph and 6th. 

• Newberry St between Pine and Lincoln Ct is set to see water main installation followed by resurfacing starting June 2. One lane of travel will be maintained during construction. Work is estimated to be complete by the end of August. 

• Resurfacing on Indian Rd between May and Concord began earlier this week. One lane of travel will be maintained during construction. Work is estimated to be complete by mid-July.

• 05.16.25 | Great news! The Flood Resilience Project between 3rd and Tremont and along the riverfront is nearly complete! The Riverfront Recreational Trail has re-opened! Grading and other finish work will continue through early June before things fully wrap up.

• 04.04.25 | Beginning Monday, April 7, the Iowa DOT will begin bridge rehabilitation work on the Harrison St Bridge over Duck Creek.  Work will start with the installation of a temporary connection to the Duck Creek Recreational Trail.  The Duck Creek Recreational Trail will then be closed under the bridge, and will be rerouted across Harrison St with the use of a temporary pedestrian signal.  Rehabilitation work will reduce travel to two lanes between W 35th and W 32nd Streets. The Iowa DOT estimates work will be complete in November.   

• 05.09.25 | Work on the Duck Creek Sewer Interceptor adjacent to and along the Duck Creek Recreational Trail is progressing steadily. Construction of the interceptor between Hickory Grove Rd past Fairmount is expected to be complete by mid-June. The contractor will then reinstall trail locations that were removed or damaged during construction before re-opening the trail. Pending weather and rail coordination, the entire Duck Creek Recreational Trail should be re-opened by the end of June/early July.

• 03.17.25 | Watch for updates this fall when the remaining phase of the Goose Creek Connector Trail and Veterans Memorial Parkway Connector Trail are complete.

Contractors, or their designee, must submit an application to close a road or reduce travel lanes in the right-of-way at least three business days in advance of the closure unless emergency conditions exist.  Work cannot commence until the application is approved.
