Road construction generic image(May 8, 2025) Road construction season is underway! While orange cones, closures and detours are never convenient, investment in the city’s major roads and neighborhood streets is a top priority. 

Here’s a comprehensive list of the work happening across the city this year. Using City Council-approved capital improvement funding from FY '25 and FY '26, the total cost of the projects to be constructed this season is more than $43 million.

Major Roads


3rd & 4th Street reconstruction and two-way conversion
• 3rd St resurfacing Telegraph to Harrison
• 3rd St two-way conversion: Marquette to E River Dr
• 4th St: resurfacing Harrison to Telegraph

53rd and Elmore intersection reconstruction

E Locust bridge rehabilitation between Judson and Mound

Bridge Ave: resurfacing from High to Rusholme

Grand Ave: resurfacing portions from 29th to Locust

Indian Rd: resurfacing from May to Eads

Lincoln Rd: resurfacing from Thornwood to Linwood

Main St: resurfacing from Palmer to Locust

Ridgeview St: reconstruction of Cedar to Pacific

Neighborhood Streets

In addition to major roads, approximately 25 neighborhood streets will see reconstruction or resurfacing.

Flood resilience

As part of the ongoing work to implement projects identified in the 2021 Flood Resiliency Study, two areas will be under construction to improve stormwater gates. This work helps restrict the flow of floodwater through storm and sanitary sewer pipes during a flood event.

Goose Creek Trail: Provides a route from Veterans Memorial Parkway to the Duck Creek Recreational Trail

Veterans Memorial Trail: Connects Veterans Memorial Parkway to Goose Creek Trail

W Loop Trail: Extends path from Emeis Park Drive to W Locust and Wisconsin.
