3rd Street traffic sign

(October 30, 2025)  The City of Davenport welcomed members of the Quad Cities media to get a preview of the two-way traffic conversion on 3rd Street. City Engineer Brian Schadt walked through the changes drivers will notice starting the week of November 3, 2025.

The presentation shared with the media can be viewed here.  You also can find answers to frequently asked questions by clicking here

The lead-up to the 3rd Street conversion includes new striping during the daytime and overnight hours of November 4 and 5. Then, on November 6, starting at 5:00 a.m., traffic will shift to two-way travel from Marquette Street to River Drive. (All weather pending).

The best thing drivers can do is slow down and follow the signage as they go through downtown using 3rd Street. Lighted message boards will be in place, and Davenport Police officers will be standing by to support traffic control.

This is what drivers will see at River Drive and 3rd Street. Keep in mind, only 3rd Street will be converted for now. Two-way travel on 4th Street won’t happen until next fall.

Despite the change, the number of parking spaces remains the same in this area of downtown. By working with the Downtown Davenport Partnership and the business community, new loading zones were created in strategic locations. The new center turn lane will allow emergency vehicles to get through traffic without slowing down response.

Several intersections will also get new stop signs, based on use, need and national traffic control standards. The intersections at Scott and Ripley will become two-way stops. The intersections at 3rd and Pershing and Iowa will become four-way stops. The goal is to reduce unnecessary stops through downtown.
This images explains that Scott Street and Ripley Street will become two-way stops. Pershing Street and Iowa Street will become four-way stops.
