City staff is taking steps to address numerous issues including congestion, access points, and pedestrian safety at the intersection of Brady Street and 65th Street/Veterans Memorial Parkway, including applying for an Iowa DOT “Traffic Safety Improvement Program” grant for a traffic safety study. With Council approval, the grant would fund 100% of the cost of the traffic study, which is expected to be $80,000.

More neighborhood streets could soon see improvements as Council considers awarding contracts for three more projects. Included in the projects is Johnson Avenue between Fairmount Street and Gayman Avenue; West 54th Street between Davie Street and North Howell Street; and Hoover Road from Appomattox Road east approximately 350 feet, Appomattox Road between West 63rd Street and Hoover Road, and North Ripley Street from West 61st Street to West 65th Street.

Several more street projects could be added to the calendar for the 2021 construction season. Council will consider the plans and specifications for the Johnson Avenue (Fairmount to Gayman) and West 54th Street (Davie to Howell) Reconstructions, as well as three roadways located within the Goose Creek Heights neighborhood. Also on the agenda this Council cycle is awarding the contract for the replacement of Marquette Street from West 12th Street to West 5th Street and West 12th Street from Marquette Street to west of Myrtle Street to CDMI Concrete Contractors of Port Byron, Illinois.

This one-time money will be used to improve quality of life for Davenport residents, to provide for immediate recovery needs, and to create a long-term investment for Davenport’s future.

This new partnership is intended to maintain and enhance positive relationships between the Iowa Quad Cities’ law enforcement agencies and the communities in which they serve.
