Contractor Licenses

Work regulated by city ordinance must be performed by or under the direct supervision of an individual licensed as a contractor. No person, firm, partnership or corporation shall engage in construction contracting without having a current valid license certificate issued in accordance with City Code 15.30.

Licenses are issued to individuals only, who may then secure permits and supervise work for a company or corporation. Plumbing and electrical work shall be performed by or under the direct supervision of an individual licensed as a journeyman who is employed by the licensed contractor. Plumbing apprentices are required to register with the the State of Iowa.

Applicants for contractor licenses must meet the minimum qualifications for training and experience for each license category licensing is being sought for.  Qualified applicants are required to demonstrate their capabilities by standardized testing.
