March 4, 2022 - Mayor Mike Matson swore in four new Davenport Firefighters at the City Council Committee of the Whole Meeting on March 2.

“As your Fire Chief, I am honored to be able to introduce four of the newest members to our family in the presence of the Mayor, the City Council, their families, and the community they will be serving.” - Fire Chief Mike Carlsten. 

Dustin Garner | Dustin grew up in Loami, Illinois and attended Western Illinois University obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration with a minor in Fire Administration. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 8 years as a Military Police Officer. Firefighter Garner served as a Police Officer for the City of Muscatine for 4 years and with the City of Davenport for 6 years. He has achieved his EMT certification and is working on his Firefighter I and II certifications.

Grant Duncan | Grant grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa and attended Pleasant Valley High School. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Atheltic Training from Loras College. Prior to joining the Davenport Fire Department, Grant worked as an Athletic Trainer for the Quad Cities Storm Hockey Team.

Firefighter Duncan has achieved his Firefighter I, Hazmat Operations, and National EMT certifications. Currently he is working on his Firefighter II certification and plans to attend paramedic school.

Craig Malchow | Craig grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin where he attended high school. He obtained an Associate's degree in Fire Science from Western Wisconsin Technical College and. Firefighter Malchow has achieved his Firefighter I and II certifications.  
Prior to joining the Davenport Fire Department, he spent almost 12 years as a Firefighter in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Brian Chakour | Brian Chakour grew up in Blue Grass, Iowa and graduated from West High School. Firefighter Chakour worked as a welder for 15 years before joining the Davenport Fire Department. He obtained EMT certification from Scott Community College, and is working on achieving his Firefighter I and II certifications.
