City of Davenport hosts delegation from Langfang, China through Sister Cities relationship

(April 28, 2025) The City of Davenport welcomed a delegation from Langfang, China for a visit to renew the Sister City relationship between the two cities.
The afternoon’s events included a lunch at the Hotel Blackhawk, sponsored by Visit Quad Cities, followed by a formal meeting and tour at the Figge Art Museum. Mike Matson, Mayor of Davenport and Liu Yuan, Mayor of Langfang, signed an agreement extending the Sister City relationship for five years. Davenport’s relationship with Langfang dates back to 2018, after visits to both cities from the respective delegations. A Sister City relationship creates diplomatic ties between cities around the world to advance the public good through cultural awareness.
“The City of Davenport is honored that the Langfang delegation dedicated time to make this visit,” said Mayor Mike Matson. “We look forward to continuing to work with the Chinese people in appreciation of both our wonderful cities.”
The discussion also included opportunities to expand tourism and share cultural experiences.
“The people of Langfang fully agree with the renewal of the Sister City agreement,” said Mayor Liu Yuan. “This is another milestone for our two cities to celebrate friendship and cooperation.”
The two mayors also exchanged gifts to symbolize mutual respect and friendship. Mayor Matson presented Mayor Liu Yuan with a vase crafted by local artists Joel Ryser and Logan Ryser from Hot Glass in Davenport. The vase is swirled with blues and whites, symbolizing the majesty and movement of the Mississippi River.
