Davenport PARK improvement PROJECTS

Using Capital Improvement Project funds and/or general operating budget funds, Parks and Recreation staff are always working to improve and upgrade play structures, amenities, and activities within Davenport parks.

Updates as of March '23 (other than ARPA funded projects-see below)

  • Annie Wittenmyer Family Aquatic Center | Roof replacements
    • Roofs on bathhouse and mechanical buildings are being replaced. Anticipated late Summer installation.
  • City Cemetery | Storage building
    • PROJECT COMPLETE – This project added a larger, more architecturally pleasing storage building to the historic City cemetery.
  •  Credit Island Nature Preserve & Park | Nature-based play area
    • Design in development; anticipating project going to bid Spring/Summer 2023 with installation Fall 2023.
  • Davenport Skate Park | Repairs and pump track
    • City has secured the services of a top skate park construction company to evaluate the condition of the skate park, recommend repairs and determine the possibility of installing a pump track.  Community input will begin Summer, 2023.
  • Dillon fountain | Electrical upgrades
    • Project to raise electrical fixtures out of the flood plain. Project has been bid. Work anticipated to begin as soon as supplies are received.
  • Gayman Park | Replace existing playground
    • Anticipating Spring 2023 installation.
  • Goose Creek Park | Restrooms
    • Anticipating completion Spring 2023 for opening early Summer 2023.
  • Lindsay Park | Updated Restrooms
    • PROJECT COMPLETE - Reopening with all park restrooms Spring 2023.
  • Prairie Heights Park | Sensory Panel Play Piece addition to Miracle Field Playground
    • Anticipated Spring 2023 installation.
  • Vander Veer Botanical Park | Stone Bridge Walkway & Fully Accessible Wheelchair Swing 
    • Design is in development for an accessible sidewalk path to the Stone Bridge with expansion of flowerbeds. 
    • Swing has been ordered. Plans and specs for installation of swing are in approval process.  Anticipate Fall 2023 installation.
  • Whalen Park |Interior Walking Path
    •  Project is out to bid. Anticipating Fall 2023 installation.
  • Multiple Parks TBD | Community Bike Racks
    •  This project is in partnership with West High School's Welding Program to create 10 new custom community bike racks. Installation in TBD parks Spring 2023.
  • Historic Properties | Roof replacements
    • Roof on the LeClaire house and the Fejervary Learning center storage building are being replaced. 
    • Plans and specs have been created and are going through approval process. 
    • Anticipated late Summer/early Fall installation.

ARPA Funded Park Projects

Have you heard of the park improvements through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) coming to #Davenport? Eight parks will receive $2.5M to be used toward various upgrades including:


  • Cork Hill Park | Multi-sport courts, upgraded water feature
    • Existing tennis courts being demolished in preparation of early Spring 2023 installation.
  • Dohse Pool | New spray park
    • Designs being completed. 
  • Emeis Park | Replace existing play structure and Add obstacle play feature
    • New obstacle course ordered. Anticipating Spring 2023 installation.
    • All inclusive playground being designed. Anticipating Fall 2023 installation.
  • Harbor Road Park | Obstacle play feature
    • PROJECT COMPLETE-new obstacle course is open to the public.
    • Gaga Pit - Anticipating Spring 2023 installation.
  • Herington Park | Multi-sport court
    • Anticipating Spring 2023 installation.
  • Lafayette Park | Relocation and installation of new play structure
    • PROJECT COMPLETE-new playground is open to the public.
  • Van Buren Park | multi-sport courts
    • Existing tennis courts being demolished in preparation of early Spring 2023 installation.
  • Whalen Park | upgraded and new playground
    • Anticipating Spring 2023 installation.
