What to know - April 21 Council Cycle

April 20, 2021 - Each year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocates HOME Investment Partnership funding to the City that must be spent on housing projects/activities that benefit households at or below certain income levels. Council will consider approving two HOME-funded development agreements for housing projects, one at 601 Brady Street that would see the current office space repurposed into thirty-four residential units, and the other includes the construction of three single-family homes in the 800 block of East 6th Street.

Multiple improvements at River Heritage Park will be presented for Council approval in preparation for the upcoming arrival of both American Cruise Lines and Viking Cruises. River Heritage Park | Phase III will construct the Great Lawn, extend the riverwalk, and upgrade electrical. Other projects for Council consideration include seawall repair and the removal and resetting of the railing.

When approving the funding agreement for the School Resource Officer program last August, City Council requested the creation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Davenport and Davenport Community School District to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the SROs. A diverse task force was convened representing the League of United Latin American Citizens, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, law enforcement, elected officials, City staff, educators, and additional community spokespeople. Several months of discussions, community outreach, and joint public work sessions have culminated with the finalized Memorandum of Understanding being presented to City Council for approval.
