Davenport announces date for the March Corridor Cleanup

It may not seem like it now, but spring is just around the corner.  And when it gets here, all the snow and icepack will melt, leaving the City’s gateways littered with debris left behind by strong winter winds and snow. Definitely not the look our unique community with a metropolitan lifestyle and hometown feel is going for.

Litter hurts our waterways and our community's image. It doesn’t matter how it got there, but it does matter that we keep it off of the road and out of our creeks. And we can’t do it alone. The annual Corridor Cleanup is designed to help with that. Promoting pride and ownership in the community we live, while enjoying the outdoors, meeting new people, and protecting our numerous waterways.

Community members who participate always have a great time and leave with stories to tell. Nobody knows what kind of weather we will battle or what we will find.  With built in opportunity to write your own story, Cleanups are often an adventure, and in the case of the Corridor Cleanup, no one knows what might be found. License plates and some of the most obscure items you can imagine have been found over the years. Participants might even be the person who can reunite someone with their wallet.

The cleanup will be held on

Saturday, March 20, 2021 | 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM (pending weather – may be shorter)

COVID-19 is not stopping us.  Volunteers at the locations to be cleared will be fewer than 25, and litter pick up is generally independent, allowing for six feet of space or more apart.  The projects are also outdoors and not in cramped or confined spaces. Gloves are provided.

We are also looking for community members interested in leading cleanups at a few locations.

At the end of the day, the Corridor Cleanup is about citizenship, stewardship, and community pride.  We encourage everyone who can to participate.
