Newly sworn in firefighters with Chief Mike Carlsten, Assistant Chief Robb Macdougall and Fire Marshal Jim MorrisCongratulations to four new Davenport firefighters – Zack Micklewright, Andrew De Vita, James Rodgers and Wesley Doering – who were sworn in at Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

Micklewright was born and raised in Davenport and graduated from West High School in May, 2004. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He spent 14 years in the Marine Corps Reserves, serving deployments in Iraq in 2007 and Africa in 2012. He separated from the Marine Corps in 2018 as a staff sergeant. Zack is a certified EMT through the University of Iowa and is working toward getting his Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications.

DeVita grew up in Rockford, Ill., where he graduated from Boylan High School and received his Associates of Fire Science at the College of DuPage. He went to Western Illinois University where he then received his Bachelors of Fire Science. Andrew has his EMT-B and is working on his Fire 1 and Fire 2 certificates.

Rodgers grew up in Pekin, Ill., where he graduated from Pekin Community High School and Illinois Central College with an Associates in Fire Science. He is currently working toward his Fire 1 and Fire 2 certificates as well as transferring his EMT license from Illinois.

Doering was born and raised in Davenport. He graduated from West with academic honors while playing football, track and playing in the band. After graduation, he attended vocational schooling where he specialized in welding. He worked at John Deere Harvester Works as a welder for 11 years before being employed with the City of Davenport. He has been a volunteer with the City of Princeton for the last eight years. Wesley has EMT and Firefighter 2 certification.
